HOW we made "How Many Dudes?"

Oh hey there! We're Butterscotch Shenanigans (a.k.a. "Bscotch"), a small indie game dev studio founded by 3 brothers (Seth Coster, Sam Coster, and Adam Coster) back in 2012. We created "How Many Dudes?" (a.k.a. "HMD") because we needed a break from the 5-year project we'd just finished (Crashlands 2).

"How Many Dudes?" started as a jam game for the 2025 GMTK Game Jam, which Seth and Sam did in between major patches for Crashlands 2. They had so much fun making it, and people were already having so much fun playing that little prototype, that we decided to make it our next game.

Even though the original jam game was made by just two people over a few days, turning it into the complete game that you can play today required the efforts of dozens of talented people over an entire year (exactly one year, to the day!). We're so thankful to everyone who put their time, energy, and expertise into this project.

If you want to learn more about the development of "How Many Dudes?" we talk about it openly in our weekly Coffee with Butterscotch Podcast and will probably write up some analyses on the Bscotch Blog.
